33. Annie Fleming Major
She was born c. 1856, the daughter of Margaret Weir Andrews & her first husband possibly Samuel Fleming. In 1859 Margaret married Charles Swank & apparently Charles thought of Annie as his own child, although he & Margaret had a large family.
Annie married twice. Her first husband was Thomas Major & there were two children from this marriage - Margaret b 1877 & William b 1879. Her second husband was Luther Birdsall.
Margaret Weir Andrews was the youngest daughter of James Andrews & Jane Rankin & was born in Ireland Feb. 06, 1840. Her sisters were Jane Kennedy, Ann Porter & Nancy Wisely.
About Jim Swank. The only one that I have listed is a brother of Charles. They were the sons of Philip Swank & Amelia Snyder who lived at Mauch Chunk. James W. Swank was born Aug.23, 1835 Mauch Chunk & died Aug. 17, 1921, Washington D.C. He married Julia Boyer & had a family of 6 children - no James. He worked as a clerk for US Treasury Dept. in Washington & went by the initials J. W. (Elaine McCutcheon <email@example.com> of Australia).
Anna K. Fleming was the daughter of Margaret Andrews Fleming Swank. Her husband, I believe, was Samuel Fleming. The Flemings were lived several houses away from the James Andrews home.
Anna, born in 1856 was surely accepted by Charles W. Swank, husband of her mother, Margaret. He remembered her in his will. When Anna married Thomas Major, he was working on the railroad in Mauch Chunk. They had one daughter. In 1890 they moved to Seattle where a half sister, Olive Swank Kiefer lived. Her husband was an attorney, who had practiced in Mauch Chunk and was awarded his law certificate in that same city. They also had a son. Thomas Major apparently died. She remarried and moved with her husband to San Francisco. ( Chris)
